After Kubrick's death in March 1999, Harlan and Christiane Kubrick approached Spielberg to take over the director's position. Reports and images show that Russia's military has deployed KUB- BLA suicide drones into Ukraine, with speculations of intentions to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Many problems in AI require the agent to operate with incomplete or uncertain information. Self-driving cars are a recognizable example of deep learning, since they use deep neural networks to detect objects around them, determine their distance from other cars, identify traffic signals and much more. The wearable sensors and devices used in the healthcare industry also apply deep learning to assess the health condition of the patient, including their blood sugar levels, blood pressure and heart rate. They can also derive patterns from a patient’s prior medical data and use that to anticipate any future health conditions.

Pre-production was briefly halted during February 2000, because Spielberg pondered directing other projects, which were Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Minority Report, and Memoirs of a Geisha. John McCarthy develops the AI programming language Lisp and publishes “Programs with Common Sense,” a paper proposing the hypothetical Advice Taker, a complete AI system with the ability to learn from experience as effectively as humans. The phrase “artificial intelligence” is coined at the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence. Led by John McCarthy, the conference is widely considered to be the birthplace of AI. It’s worth noting, however, that the artificial intelligence industry stands to create jobs, too — some of which have not even been invented yet. Business Insider Intelligence’s 2022 report on AI in banking found more than half of financial services companies already use AI solutions for risk management and revenue generation.

The next few years would later be called an "AI winter", a period when obtaining funding for AI projects was difficult. Artificial intelligence will have an impact on our societies that we hardly imagine. Algorithms are already said to be able to identify the best candidates for a job, assist doctors to establish medical diagnoses or help lawyers before the courts. All this is not entirely new, since already in the 1980s, expert systems assisted humans with a high level of expertise.

Transhumanism is explored in the manga Ghost in the Shell and the science-fiction series Dune. Thought-capable artificial beings have appeared as storytelling devices since antiquity,and have been a persistent theme in science fiction. Machine-learning AI is also able to design tens of thousands of toxic molecules in a matter of hours. For this project the AI had to learn the typical patterns in the colors and brushstrokes of Renaissance painter Raphael.
